Partnerships

Ulster University

Pneuma Healthcare, a spin-out company from Ulster University founded in May 2022 by   Dr. Colin Gorman. Pneuma collaborates with colleagues from Psychology, Computing, and the Office of Innovation and Impact to deliver progressive mental health solutions. By engaging with experts across various disciplines and departments, Pneuma integrates diverse perspectives to enhance its mental health services.

At the core of Pneuma is its dedicated team, grounded in the comprehensive psychological training offered by Ulster University's School of Psychology, particularly through the MSc Applied Psychology program. Our training program emphasizes the transfer of knowledge and skills, continuously evolving through insights gained from our practical work. Our MSc BPS-accredited graduates form the foundation of Pneuma's workforce, creating job opportunities for Ulster students.

Additionally, Pneuma partners on research projects with the School of Medicine, including the award-winning SPIT project and most recently the ADHD facilitation program. We also currently support Employee Wellbeing at Ulster University by providing psychological wellbeing support for anxiety and depression for employees.

Pneuma Healthcare is proud to collaborate with Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) to revolutionize mental health services. This collaboration aims to integrate innovative approaches and evidence-based practices to provide comprehensive mental health support. By combining Pneuma Healthcare's expertise in digital health solutions with Six Degrees' community-focused initiatives, we strive to create accessible, effective, and sustainable mental health services. mdeducational foundation

Pneuma Healthcare are working in partnership with mdeducational foundation, a charity prioritising student wellbeing by providing fully funded wellbeing support in schools across the UK and Ireland. mdeducational foundation provides a three-year salary-funded commitment to placing dedicated wellbeing professionals within post-16 educational settings. The Wellbeing Leads promote positive wellbeing through the delivery of a wellbeing curriculum by normalising student psychological fitness and resilience.

mdeducational foundation exists because they identified a gap in wellbeing support for post-16 students. The urgency for additional support can be seen in the latest NHS Digital report as it states that rates of a probable mental disorder in 17-19-year-olds rose from 1 in 10 in 2017 to 1 in 5 in 2023 (NHS Digital, 2023). By funding the placement of Wellbeing Leads into post-16 settings, mdeducational foundation is enabling educational settings to kickstart their long-term wellbeing strategies and putting student wellbeing at the forefront of education.

With a clear lack of research in this area and support for students aged between 16-18, we see further research and education as crucial areas for improvement when it comes to supporting adolescents dealing with wellbeing challenges. Pneuma Healthcare in collaboration with Ulster University and mdeducational foundation are developing research-driven mechanisms to shed light on wellbeing strategies and outcomes for developing robust, dynamic and scientific data capture, interventions and peer-reviewed research. This collaborative partnership brings pioneering innovations in wellbeing to post-16 school settings.
